First Impressions

When I first spotted Cluj City Iris Appartment on Strada Oasului, I’ll be honest — the building isn’t much to look at from the outside. It’s one of those typical Romanian apartment blocks, but don’t let that fool you. Once you get up to apartment 58, you realize this four-star place has some serious surprises waiting inside.

Location & Getting Around

The thing about staying in Cluj-Napoca is that you want to be close enough to the action but far enough to actually get some sleep. This spot hits that sweet spot perfectly — you’re about a 15-minute walk to the Old Town, but the neighborhood itself is pretty quiet. There’s a decent grocery store just down the street, and honestly, the local bakery around the corner makes some of the best cozonac I’ve had outside of my grandmother’s kitchen.

The Space Itself

What really got me was how spacious everything feels once you’re inside. The room layout is actually quite clever — they’ve managed to fit a proper living area, bedroom, and a kitchenette without making it feel cramped. The furniture is modern but not trying too hard, if you know what I mean. The Wi-Fi is solid (I was working remotely for part of my stay), and the shower pressure is surprisingly good for an older building.

Neighborhood Discoveries

You know what I didn’t expect? How much I’d enjoy just wandering around this area in the evenings. There’s this little restaurant called Casa Boema about ten minutes away that serves incredible ciorbă de burtă — definitely not tourist food, but the real deal. The locals are friendly enough, and I picked up more Romanian phrases chatting with the shop owners than I did from any guidebook. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street, but there are usually spots if you’re patient.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t going to be the fanciest place you’ve ever stayed, but it gets the important stuff right. The host is responsive (answered my questions about laundry within an hour), the place is clean, and you get that authentic feeling of actually living in Cluj rather than just visiting. For the price point and the 7.9 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises — a comfortable base to explore the city without breaking the bank or dealing with hotel formalities.

  – the extremely loud entry door (We hurried home because of this , it was like opening a castle door, I guess we disturbed the entire floor every time we used it 🙁 ) ….

  the fire/gas alarm was plugged out although the heating unit was inside the studio

  What could be improved: Когда я бронировал эту квартиру, я ставил фильтр чтобы был паркинг, в итоге это был двор заставленный машинами, я спросил у владельца где ставить? Оказалось что где угодно, но все места заняты кем-то, и мою машину трогали, и сломали дворники! Типа я поставил на чужое место, но никаких признаков не было что это место зарезервировано.
  Второе, как только мы приехали в квартире оказался не работающий бойлер, не было горячей воды! Я ехал 10 часов за рулем, и даже не смог принять душ! Говорил по тлф с хозяйкой, она пыталась мне объяснить как чинить бойлер, из него вылилось на пол много вонючкой воды, которую мне пришлось вытирать!
  Не советую эту квартиру, и никогда больше не буду за такое платить.

  Amplasare buna, usor de gasit apartamentul. Cheia se preia usor, gazda foarte amabila! Curatenie.
  
  What could be improved: Cateva neajunsuri: salteaua este pe un palet, iar pentru persoane mai varstnice, cum e mama cu care am fost, a fost destul de incomod ridicarea. Eu as pune si papuci de casa, fiindca doar parchet e si e un pic rece de jos. Iar in baie nu este o etajera pentru geluri si sampoane la dus, toate trebuie tinute pe jos, iar cand iesi de la dus trebuie sa iti pui un prosop jos.
