First Impressions

Hotel Belvedere sits quietly on Calarasilor Street, and honestly, you might walk past it if you’re not paying attention. It’s one of those unassuming three-star places that doesn’t try to wow you with flashy exteriors — instead, it wins you over once you step inside. The lobby has this understated charm that immediately puts you at ease, nothing fancy but everything feels thoughtfully arranged.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what I love about this spot in Cluj-Napoca? You’re close enough to the historic center that you can walk there in about 10 minutes, but far enough away that you escape the tourist crowds and late-night noise. Calarasilor is actually a pretty quiet residential street, lined with those beautiful turn-of-the-century buildings that make this city so charming. There’s a decent grocery store just around the corner, and I found a fantastic little bakery two blocks away that locals clearly frequent.

The Room Experience

My room was on the third floor — clean, functional, and surprisingly spacious for what I expected from a three-star property. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathroom, while compact, has good water pressure and stays warm. The windows face the street, but since it’s not a busy thoroughfare, you won’t have traffic keeping you awake. I mean, the décor won’t win any design awards, but everything works well and feels maintained.

Daily Essentials

Breakfast happens in their small dining area, and while it’s not an elaborate buffet, they cover the basics really well — fresh bread, local cheeses, decent coffee, and eggs prepared how you like them. The staff running the restaurant area are genuinely friendly, not just going through the motions. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street, but the hotel staff helped me figure out the local parking zones, which saved me from any unwanted tickets.

Look, Hotel Belvedere won’t blow you away with amenities or Instagram-worthy interiors, but it delivers exactly what you need for exploring Cluj-Napoca without breaking the bank. The 8.4 rating makes perfect sense — it’s that reliable, well-run place where everything just works smoothly. The staff actually remember your name after the first day, and they’re genuinely helpful with restaurant recommendations and directions. For the price point, you’re getting solid value and a peaceful base for discovering one of Romania’s most interesting cities.

  The hotel is near a park, and from fifth floor the view is great.

  Good price value proposition, exceptionally clean, comfortable room and bed
  
  What could be improved: I stayed there twice within seven days traveling to and from Cluj and on both occasions I ended up with hardly lukewarm shower water in the morning. Not the end of the world, especially given the fact that everything else was good. But it would be nice if the hotel would upgrade it‘s water boilers so each guest gets a warm shower in the morning. Thanks.

  The breakfast was very good and there was a terrace to eat it outdoors. The staff were helpful and friendly. The views are amazing. It was a very good price for one night. It is a lovely communist era building with some great original features.
  
  What could be improved: The rooms are a little tired. The air conditioning is not particularly powerful so the room was quite warm.

• Nice retro hotel on a top of a hill with a great view – and many stairs to climb – Thomas from Serbia – May 17, 2025 (9/10)

  It s an old fashioned hotel, still conserving a feeling of the 80s and 90s. But everything is well preserved, working – and very clean. On a top of a hill and in a middle of a park you have a great view on your own balcony and quiet nights; The walk downhill to the city center takes just a view minutes. I didn t have the time to test the swimming pool and the gym – but both were working.
  
  What could be improved: The way back from the center is a bit more tiring – 250 stairsteps to climb up the hill and back to the hotel – this is of course no problem if you are fit. If not: better take a hotel in the center. The mini bar was empty, no shops really around – and the restaurant closing down early. So bring yourself a bottle to the room (at least there is a fridge). If you want to eat in the restaurant make sure that there are no group travellers at the same time. Since the number of people working there is limited you might wait quite a while for your dinner if the restaurant is full (I had to wait 1,5 hours for the food – but at least the drinks were served in time.

  Excellent location with views of the city. Has on-site restaurant if you do not want to walk the stairs down to the city center. Lots of delivery options if you want food brought to you. Friendly and helpful staff.
  
  What could be improved: This is not a negative for me, but consider that the hotel is on top of a hill. To get to the city center, you either have to walk down some stairs or otherwise call a Bolt or a taxi (or drive, if you do not mind spending your time hunting for parking spots.)
