First Impressions

Pensiunea Junior sits on a quiet side street in Cluj-Napoca, and honestly, I almost walked past it the first time — it’s got that understated Romanian guesthouse vibe that doesn’t scream for attention. The building itself is modest, but once you step inside, you realize that’s actually part of its charm. This three-star place knows exactly what it is and doesn’t try to be anything else.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about Str. Caii Ferate — it’s close enough to the city center that you can walk to the main square in about 15 minutes, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds right outside your window. The train station is practically around the corner, which is incredibly handy if you’re planning day trips to other parts of Transylvania. You know what’s also nice? There’s a decent parking situation here, which anyone who’s driven in Cluj will tell you is worth its weight in gold.

The Room Experience

My room was clean and functional — not fancy, but everything worked properly, which is more than I can say about some places I’ve stayed in Romania. The beds are comfortable enough, and the bathroom was recently updated with good water pressure (trust me, this matters). The windows actually open properly for fresh air, and there’s decent Wi-Fi throughout the building.

Breakfast & Daily Routines

Breakfast happens in a small dining area that feels more like someone’s home than a hotel restaurant. The spread is simple but satisfying — fresh bread, local cheeses, eggs, and coffee that’s actually decent. The staff here genuinely seem to care about making sure you’re sorted for the day, and they’re happy to give you directions or recommendations without that forced hospitality you get at bigger hotels.

Look, Pensiunea Junior isn’t going to wow you with amenities or Instagram-worthy interiors, but it does something more valuable — it gives you a comfortable base in Cluj without breaking the bank. The 8.2 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re paying versus what you get. It’s the kind of place where business travelers and tourists alike can get a good night’s sleep and start fresh in the morning. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially in a city like Cluj where you’ll be spending most of your time exploring anyway.

  Great location. About 5 minutes walk from main railway station. Breakfast is good. The staff were very friendly. I can recommend the place, we would be happy to come again.

  It was a clean stay, the room was nice, I had a nice time here, and the employees were especially nice.
  The bed was comfortable, there was a fridge in the room (which isn't a given, I've been to more expensive hotels that didn't provide this, so thank you), there was a hair dryer in the bathroom, the conditions were amazing. One other thing to note is that there are multiple mirrors, perfect for a business trip where you want to look your best!
  
  What could be improved: The breakfast has potential, but there's room for improvement. I'd have liked a water dispenser, not 2L bottles of water for people to share. But at this price, having breakfast is already something.

  One of the best budget hotels in Romania where we have been for this price 🙂
  Location is in walkable distance from old town
  Wonderfull staff that help us with many issues that we had unrelated to our stay (even if they did not speak good english)
  Small but free private parking space on the side of hotel
  Everything was clean
  Heating during night in april worked very well
  Hairdryer available in bathroom (finally as this is first place in this price level hotels where we got this)
  
  What could be improved: Noise isolation could be better as this is place near train tracks, tram tracks and heavily used car road (so if you are light sleeper, this will bother you, we had no issues and during night there is almost no traffic)
  Also noises from stairway is heard very well as door is not isolating nothing, we had to wake up at 8 a.m. with other screaming guests 🙂
  There is no air conditioner but fan provided, only way to let fresh air in is to open windows therefore noise increases by a lot
  Our room was on 3rd floor and we had no wifi there, but we used mobile data
  We stayed 2 nights and breakfast was the same not even slight changes, but all basic options available – eggs, sausages, cucumber, tomato, bread, meats, cheese, cold airfried snacks, cereal, yogurt, apples, bisquits, tea, basic cofee, juices etc
  No elevator only steep stairs so prepare to have slight exercise 🙂
