First Impressions

When I first arrived at Sunflower Apartment, I’ll be honest — the name had me expecting something pretty basic. But this four-star property in Cluj-Napoca completely changed my expectations. Located on Bulevardul 21 Decembrie 1989, it sits in one of those neighborhoods where you actually feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it. The building itself has that solid Eastern European charm, and finding parking right on-site was honestly a relief after driving through Romania’s winding roads.

The Space That Surprised Me

The apartment layout is what really sets this place apart from your typical hotel experience. You’re not cramped into a standard hotel room — instead, you get proper living space that feels, well, livable. The kitchen is actually functional (I mean, you could cook a real meal here if you wanted), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re living out of a suitcase. The whole setup works perfectly for couples — which explains why they consistently rate the location so highly for romantic getaways.

Location That Actually Matters

Here’s what I love about the location — you’re close enough to Cluj-Napoca’s center to walk to the good stuff, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds every time you step outside. The boulevard it’s on connects you easily to the rest of the city, and honestly, having that private parking spot means you can actually explore the surrounding Transylvania region without worrying about where to leave your car. I noticed a lot of local cafes and shops within walking distance, the kind of places where you’ll actually interact with residents rather than just other travelers.

What Makes It Work

The 9.6 rating isn’t just numbers — you feel it in the details. Everything’s been thought through, from the way the apartment is laid out to how easy it is to get settled in. The staff (when you need them) know the area well and can point you toward the spots locals actually go to. I appreciated that they don’t hover, but they’re responsive when you have questions. The whole experience feels more like borrowing a friend’s really nice place than staying in a commercial property.

Why Guests Keep Coming Back

After spending time here, I get why couples especially love this place — it gives you that “playing house in Romania” feeling without sacrificing comfort or convenience. You can cook breakfast together, plan your day over coffee in your own space, and come back to somewhere that feels like home base. The combination of independence and quality is pretty rare, especially at this price point. Plus, that parking situation is golden if you’re planning to explore beyond Cluj-Napoca — which you absolutely should, by the way.

  The location was exactly as advertised and as per other comments seen before booking it. Very clean, which I truly appreciated. I've seen comments about clean properties before, but this one really was. Very cheerful, but elegantly decorated.
  The host was very friendly, helpful and replying very fast to all questions.
  I've stayed all around Cluj in my previous stays, but this one seemed one of the best. Walking distance to the city centre (normal walk: 15-17 mins), or if you're feeling lazy, the bus stop is 3mins away. Right next to The Office and close to many important objectives. I really recommend this location and hopefully it will be available next time I'll visit Cluj.

  – Great facilities. The room has everything you need: TV, internet, microwave, fridge, oven, stove, washing machine, clothes iron, vacuum cleaner.
  – The place is also plenty spacious. The living room/bedroom is quite large and can host plenty of people.
  – I also liked that there is central heating that you can control as you like.
  – Pretty quiet. The building is far from the main street, so I got a good night's sleep every day.
  – I had a dedicated parking spot, I didn't have to pay extra for.
  – Close to bus stations going both ways (east & west).
  
  What could be improved: – The shower is leaky. I don't know what I was doing wrong, but I had a pool of water in front of the shower every time I used it. They should really fix that. Also, they need a shower mat.
  – No office space. I mentioned there is a TV, but I'd personally trade that space for a desk and a chair next to an outlet. I resorted to using my laptop in the kitchen, since there's a chair and an outlet there.

  Sunflower Apartment is a nice flat near to town center and more near to a shopping mall. It is well equipped, especially the kitchen (refrigerator, oven, microwave, gas stove, coffee machine). Morning sunshine is falling into kitchen window and creates a nice atmosphere. There is a flat-owned parking lot just before the buildings.

  Très mignon, taille parfait pour une personne, bien équipé avec les choses de base et très propre à mon arrivée!
  
  What could be improved: Il me manquait juste quelques détails au niveau de l’équipement surtout dans la cuisine, ou les nombreux espaces de rangement sont vides. Par exemple une planche pour couper les légumes et autres, un toaster, une poêle et une casserole un peu plus petites (pour 1 personne)… Un deuxième détail dans la salle de bain qui manquait un peu de lumière (je devais me maquiller dans le couloir) et de rangement. Mais autrement c’était super!
