First Impressions

Vidalis Suites sits on a quiet street in Cluj-Napoca, and honestly, you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking — which is actually part of its charm. This four-star boutique property occupies a beautifully restored building that feels more like someone’s elegant home than a commercial hotel. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s pretty rare in busy city centers.

Location & Getting Around

Strada Neagră might sound dramatic (it means “Black Street”), but it’s actually one of those perfect residential streets where locals live their daily lives. You’re close enough to the old town that you can walk to Piața Unirii in about ten minutes, but far enough away that you won’t hear drunk tourists at 2 AM. The tram stops nearby, which is handy because Cluj’s public transport actually works well — something I wasn’t expecting my first time here.

The Suites

Each room here is technically a suite, which means you get proper living space instead of just a bed crammed against a wall. The kitchenette setup is thoughtfully done — not just a mini-fridge and microwave, but actual cooking facilities if you want to prep your own breakfast or heat up some local cheese and bread from the market. The design feels contemporary but warm, with local touches that don’t scream “tourist hotel.” I mean, the bathrooms alone are bigger than some entire hotel rooms I’ve stayed in.

What Makes It Special

The staff here genuinely knows Cluj, and they’re not just reciting TripAdvisor recommendations. When I asked about good spots for traditional Romanian food, they sent me to this tiny place tucked away near the Botanical Garden that I never would’ve found otherwise. There’s no formal restaurant on-site, but honestly, with so many great local spots within walking distance, you don’t need one. The building itself has this wonderful old-world architecture that’s been updated without losing its character.

Why Guests Love It

That 9.5 rating isn’t just because everything works (though it does) — it’s because this place gets the balance right between service and space. You’re not paying for amenities you won’t use, but what’s here is done really well. The apartment-style layout means you can actually spread out and live a bit, rather than just crash between sightseeing sessions. Plus, parking is available, which anyone who’s tried to drive in Cluj’s old town will appreciate. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying an extra day just because you’re comfortable, and in a city with as much to offer as Cluj-Napoca, that’s saying something.

  Clean bed sheets and towels, but there was a little bit of dust on the floor.
  In the kitchen we had everything we needed (but we didn't cooked anything, so I don't exactly know if there's actually all you need for this).
  
  What could be improved: There is available only underground parking, which you can't use if you have LPG installation on your car so you have to park in the yard of their hotel which is 2 min walk from the apartament. The problem is that the hotel gate is opened by the hotel staff and if you want to leave very early you might have to wait for someone to open the gate. There are some mobile numbers you can call, but they aren't responding quick.

  It is brand new, high quality and very chic. The property managers were very responsive and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: I would have appreciated to have coffee cups, as there was a coffee machine in the kitchen, and some small touches which really make a difference: a roll of paper tissue in the kitchen, a box of paper tissues in the bathroom, the liquid soap in the dispenser.

  Locatie centrala,obiective turistice facil de accesat,apartament nou in bloc recent construit (din pacate bormasinile au lucrat discret …….dar cu bun simt ),mobilat decent (mobila IKEA noua),aer conditionat in ambele camere,bucatarie cu de toate : cuptor cu microunde,masina de spalat rufe,plita electrica +cuptor ,expresor cafea ,vesela …….

  Locatia este foarte buna, aproape de centru si de restaurante. Apartamentul este nou, spatios, si dotat cu tot ce este necesar. Check-in-ul a fost foarte usor de realizat. Gazda receptiva care ne-a oferit toate detaliile cerute. Parcarea privata a fost un avantaj.
  
  What could be improved: Blocul este unul nou iar in parcarea subterana, lift si pe hol era foarte mult praf. Se lucra la parter si era zgomot dar nu deranjant.
  Liftul de la parcare a fost putin ciudat pentru ca intra o masina la limita. Trebuie precizat care sunt limitele acestui lift.

  What could be improved: Les équipements étaient vraiment au minimum. Pas de capsules pour la machine à café, pas de thé, pas de bouilloire, pas même un peu de sucre… pas de savon dans la douche… c’est dommage !
