Walking up to the fourth floor of this historic building on Strada Henri Barbusse, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from Charming City Hideout. The entrance is tucked away in what feels like a residential building, but that’s actually part of its charm — you’re staying in a real neighborhood, not some sterile hotel district. Once inside apartment 33, though, everything clicks into place. This four-star spot has been thoughtfully designed to feel like a stylish friend’s place rather than a typical hotel room.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s great about this location? You’re right in the heart of Cluj-Napoca without dealing with the tourist crowds that cluster around the main square. Strada Henri Barbusse puts you within easy walking distance of everything that matters — I could reach the old town in about ten minutes, but I was also surrounded by local cafes and shops that most visitors never discover. The street itself has this lovely European residential vibe, with tree-lined sidewalks and that authentic Romanian architecture you came here to see.

The Space

What struck me most was how they’ve managed to create distinct areas within the space without it feeling cramped. The kitchen is actually functional — I mean, you could cook a proper meal here if you wanted to, not just heat up leftovers. The living area flows naturally into the sleeping space, and there’s enough storage that you can actually unpack and settle in. The design leans modern but keeps some traditional touches that remind you you’re in Romania, not some generic European city.

Why Couples Love It

I can see why couples rate this place so highly — there’s something inherently romantic about having your own little hideaway in the city. The space feels intimate without being tiny, and you’ve got that sense of privacy you just don’t get in a regular hotel. Plus, being able to grab fresh ingredients from the local market and cook together adds a domestic touch that makes the whole experience feel more authentic. The neighborhood is perfect for evening strolls, and you’ll find plenty of cozy wine bars within a few blocks.

  Would recommend 100%. Located in quiet neighbourhood, clean, warm, equipped with all you need. Agent Valentin friendly and very helpful, nice person to deal with.

  Accommodation was easy to find, based on all details received from the host.
  Location was great, it was 10 minutes away from where I work [reason for booking]. 1KM away is a grocery supermarket [Kaufland].
  When we entered the apartment, we had a nice, warm & cozy feeling, like we have just arrived "home". We saw a lot of reviews about the existing couch not being comfortable, yet we had a very lovely surprise – a big bed! 😀
  Kitchen had everything you need: plates, cutlery, pans & pots, etc.
  Clean bathroom, hot water at every hour of the day.
  We stayed 1 week and we didn't feel something was missing.
  We recommend.
  
  What could be improved: Perhaps additional cleaning supplies? [ ex. dish washing sponge/detergent, bathroom soap/ more than 2 TPs if you stay more than 3 days ], knifes with straight edges 🙂 .
  Recommend to have extra set of keys [+ intercom card ] somewhere, if there are 2 people booking.

  What could be improved: The apartment does not have a controller for heating(wich was closed in september) so was a little too cold for me during the night(13 celsius outside). Also i didn't have a blanket, just a sheet.
  Overall apartment is ok and well mentained, very good for it's price.

  We liked the location, it was pretty close to the center, We also liked the apartment layout, and it was pretty warm, we actually opened a window for some air, but it was pretty dirty and some things were missing.
  
  What could be improved: First thing we noticed is that we received 2 small towels each (hand towels + a small patch of towel to exit on, but no bath towels), we talked to the owner, he said he'll send over new towels, but we received again 2 small towels, which were clearly helpful so thanks, but not what we expected 🙂
  
  The place was pretty dirty. The bathroom heater was full of dust, there was something that looked like chewing gum stuck to the bathroom floor.
  
  We received one and a half rolls of toilet paper which was clearly not enough and we had to buy it ourselves..
  
  All in all I would not come here for a second visit.

  What could be improved: No ac. I was when it was about 28 celsius outside, but it got really hot inside.
  The windows didn’t have any nets for bugs. As the temperature was really high, i had to sleep with the windows open, and lots of bug got in.
  The towels were ditry, and smelled really bad.
  There was no soap, dishes soap.

  It was kinda close to the city center and it has a profi shop just 2 minutes away.
  
  What could be improved: It wasn't very clean. The bed wasn't comfortable either. The neighbors were very loud, we could barely sleep. The towel hanger was broken, so were the drawers in the bathroom. They aren't taking good care of the apartment unfortunately.
