When I first pulled up to Hotel Gala on Calea Turzii, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior — it’s honestly pretty understated. But you know what? Sometimes the best places don’t need to shout about it. This three-star spot sits in a quieter part of Cluj-Napoca, away from the tourist crowds but still close enough that you’re not stranded. The lobby feels fresh and modern, with clean lines and that kind of efficient Romanian hospitality that gets things done without any fuss.

The Neighborhood

Here’s what I really appreciated — you’re actually staying where locals live and work. Calea Turzii is one of those main arteries that connects you to everything, but it’s not all cafés and souvenir shops. There’s a big shopping center nearby (Polus Center, if you need groceries or want to escape the rain), and getting to the old town takes maybe 15 minutes by car or bus. I mean, you could walk it, but Cluj’s hills will remind you why public transport exists.

The Room Experience

My room was bigger than I expected — and I’ve stayed in plenty of three-stars across Romania. The bed was properly comfortable, not just hotel-acceptable, and the bathroom had good water pressure (trust me, this matters after a day exploring Cluj’s cobblestone streets). What struck me most was how quiet it was at night. Even though you’re on a main road, the windows actually block out the traffic noise, which honestly surprised me.

Practical Details

The hotel has a small restaurant that serves decent Romanian dishes — nothing fancy, but the ciorbă de burtă was actually pretty good. Parking is included, which is huge if you’re driving in Cluj (street parking around here can be a nightmare). The staff speaks English well enough, and they’re the kind of people who’ll actually help you figure out bus routes or recommend places that aren’t just tourist traps.

Look, Hotel Gala isn’t trying to be something it’s not. It’s a solid, no-nonsense place that does the basics really well. The 9.2 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price — it’s clean, comfortable, and the staff genuinely seems to care about whether you have what you need. If you want to experience Cluj without paying old town prices, this is exactly the kind of place that works. Plus, you’ll feel like you’re staying in the real city, not some sanitized tourist bubble.

  The room was clean and spacious, the location was great. The hotel has underground packing which was really useful. Quick self check-in and check-out. 😊 We also needed to extend our stay and after making the new booking, the staff was kind enough to let us remain in the exact same room.

  Locație bună, curat, paturi confortabile, dotări utile, locuri de parcare în subteran sau în curtea hotelului, ideal pt o ședere scurtă și pt cei cu mașină.

  Totul la superlativ! Un hotel excelent din toate punctele de vedere, pe care îl recomandăm cu toată încrederea. Locația este foarte bună, parcarea la fel, curățenia impecabilă, personalul amabil – tot, totul foarte ok. Când vom reveni în Cluj, cu siguranță tot aici ne vom caza.
