Hotel Liliacul Overview

First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Hotel Liliacul on Calea Turzii, I’ll be honest — it’s not the flashiest place you’ll see in Cluj-Napoca. But you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want. This three-star spot has this understated charm that grows on you, and the fact that there’s parking right there (and it’s free!) already puts it ahead of half the places in the city center. The hotel’s exterior might seem modest at first glance, but there’s something genuinely appealing about its unpretentious approach to hospitality that sets it apart from more ostentatious establishments.

Location & Getting Around

The location is actually pretty smart if you think about it. You’re on one of the main arteries leading into Cluj, so getting to the old town takes maybe 10-15 minutes by car or tram. I mean, you’re not walking everywhere, but honestly, having that parking situation sorted makes up for it. Plus, couples seem to really get this place — there’s something about being just outside the hustle that makes it feel more intimate, you know? The strategic positioning offers easy access to major attractions while maintaining a peaceful atmosphere that many travelers find refreshing after busy days of sightseeing.

The Room Experience

My room was clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but everything worked properly. The beds are decent (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom was recently updated from what I could tell. What I appreciated was the attention to small details — good lighting for reading, enough outlets where you actually need them, that sort of thing. The windows face different directions depending on which room you get, so if you’re sensitive to morning light, maybe mention that when booking. Each accommodation features thoughtfully designed spaces that prioritize guest comfort without unnecessary frills or pretentious touches.

Service & Atmosphere

The staff here clearly know what they’re doing — you can tell this isn’t their first rodeo. There’s a reason people keep coming back (apparently more repeat guests than most places, which says something). The front desk folks were helpful without being overly chatty, and they actually knew the neighborhood well enough to give solid recommendations. The whole place has this quiet efficiency that I found pretty relaxing after long days exploring Cluj. The team’s professional approach creates an environment where guests feel genuinely welcomed rather than just processed through a standard hospitality routine.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Hotel Liliacul isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s refreshing. It’s a solid, reliable choice that gets the fundamentals right — clean rooms, helpful staff, free parking, and a location that works well for exploring the city without being right in the thick of tourist chaos. Recent guests have been rating the location pretty highly (8.0), and I get why. Sometimes you want that sweet spot where you can easily reach everything but still have a quiet place to retreat to at the end of the day. The hotel offers comfortable accommodations with modern amenities and attentive service that keeps guests returning season after season, creating a loyal following among travelers who value substance over style.

Exploring Cluj-Napoca blends Transylvanian heritage, world-class festivals, and vibrant neighborhoods glowing with baroque lights.

    Almost everything …

What could be improved: The fact that there was no complementary morning coffee / tea. And the one you could get was too expensive.

  • Convenient, good value – Mark from United States – May 6, 2025 (8/10)

Very easy to find in a convenient location close to town. Lots of parking. The hotel is older but very clean. The same for the room, older but clean. It is somewhat narrow as they have added bathroom which is brand new and very nice. But plenty of room for one person. A great shower. Excellent Wi-Fi. Although the hotel is on the main road it is very quiet with the window closed. The room has a small refrigerator. A very good value.
