Pension Arena sits on a quiet residential street in Cluj-Napoca, and honestly, you might walk past it if you’re not paying attention. It’s tucked into what feels like a neighborhood where actual locals live — you know, the kind of area where you hear Romanian conversations drifting from apartment windows and see people heading to the corner shop for groceries. The building itself is modest, but there’s something reassuring about a place that doesn’t try too hard to impress from the outside.

The Room Experience

Inside, this four-star property really shows its personality. My room was surprisingly spacious for what I expected from a pension — clean lines, decent lighting, and a bathroom that actually had proper water pressure (which, let me tell you, isn’t always a given in this part of Europe). The Wi-Fi works well throughout the building, and the beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d wrestled with the mattress all night. Nothing fancy, but everything you need is there and works properly.

Location and Getting Around

What I really appreciated about staying here is how it puts you in a real slice of Cluj life. You’re about a 15-minute walk from the city center — close enough to easily reach the main sights, but far enough out that you escape the tourist bubble completely. There’s decent parking available, which is actually pretty valuable in Cluj where finding a spot can be a real headache. The tram connections are solid too, so you can zip around the city without much hassle.

Daily Comforts

The breakfast situation is straightforward — nothing elaborate, but they serve proper Romanian staples alongside the usual European hotel fare. I mean, you’re not going to write home about the coffee, but it gets the job done. The staff speaks English well enough to handle any questions, and they seem to actually know the neighborhood. When I asked about finding a good local restaurant, they pointed me toward this small place three blocks away that turned out to serve some of the best mici I had during my entire stay in Romania.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Pension Arena isn’t going to wow you with designer fixtures or a fancy lobby, but that’s sort of the point. It’s the kind of place where you get a solid night’s sleep, a decent breakfast, and wake up in a part of Cluj that feels authentic rather than sanitized for tourists. The 8.8 rating makes sense — people seem to appreciate getting exactly what they expect without any unpleasant surprises. If you want to experience Cluj like someone who actually lives there rather than just passing through, this works really well.

  I liked the closeness to the Cluj Arena. The staff is friendly and they also offer breakfast on the site. The place was quite even if the room was facing the street.

  It is very Close to The POlyvalent Hall, Cluj Arena and the central Park. It has a parking space and the rooms are Nice ( our room had also a mini fridge)
