Pensiunea Gaby sits quietly on a residential street in Cluj-Napoca, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. The moment you walk up to this three-star guesthouse, you realize you’ve found something different — it feels more like staying at a thoughtful friend’s place than a typical hotel. The building has this warm, welcoming facade that immediately puts you at ease.

The Neighborhood Feel

What I love about the location on str. Fagetului is how authentically Romanian it feels. You’re not stuck in some touristy bubble here — you’ll see locals heading to work, kids playing in nearby yards, and you know what? That’s exactly what makes it special. The city center is easily reachable, but you get to experience Cluj-Napoca like someone who actually lives there. There’s a small grocery store just down the street, which came in handy more than once during my stay.

Your Room and Space

The room I stayed in was spotlessly clean and surprisingly spacious for a guesthouse of this size. Everything felt carefully chosen rather than just functional — the bedding was actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case), and there was enough storage space for a longer stay. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly, which matters when you’re trying to plan your days exploring the city or catch up on work.

The Personal Touch

Here’s where Pensiunea Gaby really shines — the hospitality feels genuine. The staff (I think it’s family-run, though I didn’t ask directly) seemed to actually care about whether you had what you needed. They gave me solid recommendations for local spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist places. When I mentioned I was interested in trying traditional Romanian food, they pointed me toward a restaurant that locals frequent — and it was fantastic.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t going to wow you with fancy amenities or flashy decor, but that’s sort of the point. What you get instead is clean, comfortable accommodation with people who care about your experience, in a neighborhood that feels real. The parking situation is straightforward (always a relief when you’re driving in an unfamiliar city), and the value for money is honestly excellent. I mean, with a rating of 9, other guests clearly feel the same way I do about this place — sometimes the simple things done well beat all the bells and whistles.

  Exceeded our expectations in every way. The couple hosting our stay were extremely nice and helpful and made extra efforts to make sure our stay was good. It is a bit far from everything if you want to walk to places, but for us this was not an issue at all. If you are travelling with car, I highly recommend this place. Lots of places to visit with a less than an hours drive.

  The rooms are nice, recently renovated. The bed was really comfortable, as well as the pillows. Everything was clean. Communication with the host went smoothly and she was very friendly. We parked for free in the courtyard.

  Perfect location, as we had to attend and event a conference 3 days in a row, in Wonderland Cluj. Host was kind enough to explain and show shortcuts, local roads so out commute was 5 min. with the car, instead of a longer trip on the main road! Very convenient!
  
  What could be improved: Pillows were too blunt and small hat to put a towel under it to keep my head higher, but it is just my way to sleep. 🙂

  What could be improved: Firstly when entering the pension we were greeted by an awful stench of god know what. If this wasnt alredy a bad sight we then realized that the beds were pretty uncomfortable waking up with a back pain after only 2 night of sleeping there not to mention the pillows that hardly felt like pillows as they were hard as concrete. And to put the cherry on top was the absence or well better said the cheapness of the host to turn on the heating in arguably cold weather even after being asked the heating was turned on only for few minutes.
