First Impressions

Walking into The Shire on Strada Horea feels a bit like discovering a hidden gem that locals have been keeping to themselves. This four-star boutique property sits quietly in one of Cluj-Napoca’s most charming neighborhoods, and honestly, the name makes perfect sense once you see the place — there’s something wonderfully cozy and welcoming about it that reminds you of a peaceful retreat.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what I love about this spot? You’re actually in a residential area that feels authentically Romanian, not touristy at all. The tram stops are close enough that getting to the old town takes maybe ten minutes, but you’re far enough away from the evening crowds to get proper sleep. There’s this great little bakery just around the corner where locals grab their morning coffee, and I found myself stopping there every day — the kind of place where they remember your order by day three.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was bigger than I expected, with these lovely wooden floors that creak just a little when you walk (in a charming way, not annoying). Each unit is more like an apartment really, with a proper kitchen setup that actually works — I mean, you can cook real meals here, not just heat up instant noodles. The bathroom was spotless, and they’d clearly put thought into the lighting, which is something you don’t always get right in boutique places.

Amenities & Comfort

The restaurant downstairs serves this fantastic Romanian-international fusion that surprised me — I wasn’t expecting much from hotel dining, but their ciorbă de burtă is honestly better than what I had at some of the fancier places in the center. Parking is included, which if you’ve tried to park in Cluj-Napoca, you’ll know is worth its weight in gold. The staff speaks excellent English, and they’re the kind of people who remember you’re vegetarian without you having to remind them every time.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets The Shire apart is this balance between being professional and feeling like you’re staying with friends who happen to run a really nice place. The 8.4 rating makes sense when you experience it — it’s not trying to be flashy or impress you with marble everywhere, but everything just works smoothly. You wake up feeling rested, the shower pressure is excellent, and when you need directions to that gallery everyone talks about, the front desk doesn’t just point you toward a tourist map — they actually know the neighborhood and can tell you the best route to take.

  Un apartament modern, situat intr-o locatie excelenta, in centrul orasului. Curatenie, lenjerii impecabile, mobilier nou, dotat mai ales in zona de bucatarie, aspect deosebit. Proprietarul amabil, ne-o oferit toate detaliile si ajutorul de care am ajut nevoie (multumum pentru tipsurile pentru cele mai bune restaurante 😉 ).
  
  Cu siguranta ne vom mai caza aici.
