First Impressions

Walking into Union Square Apartment by NUX feels more like staying at a friend’s stylish place than checking into a typical hotel. It’s tucked right on Piața Unirii — you literally can’t get more central than this in Cluj-Napoca. The building has that classic Romanian architecture you see all over the historic center, but inside it’s been completely modernized without losing any charm.

Location & Neighborhood

Honestly, this spot spoiled me for other accommodations in Cluj. You’re standing in the heart of the old town, surrounded by those beautiful baroque buildings and cobblestone streets that make this city so photogenic. The main shopping areas are maybe a two-minute walk, and there’s this great little restaurant called Roata that locals love just around the corner — their ciorbă de burtă is incredible if you’re feeling adventurous. I mean, you can literally see everything happening in the square from your window.

The Apartment

The apartment itself surprised me with how spacious it feels — Romanian city centers aren’t exactly known for generous square footage. The room has this perfect balance of modern comfort and local character, with high ceilings that make everything feel airy. What I really appreciated was the little kitchenette setup; nothing fancy, but it’s actually functional if you want to grab groceries from the market and make coffee the way you like it in the morning.

Practical Details

This four-star place gets the essentials right without trying to be something it’s not. The Wi-Fi actually works well (which isn’t always a given in older buildings), and the heating was perfect during my October visit when Cluj started getting those chilly autumn nights. Parking can be tricky in this part of the city — honestly, most places in the historic center have this issue — but there are paid lots nearby, and the staff actually gives you decent directions instead of just shrugging.

You know what really sets Union Square Apartment by NUX apart? It’s that sweet spot between hotel service and apartment independence. You get the privacy and space to spread out, but there’s still someone to call if something goes wrong. Plus, staying right on Piața Unirii means you’re part of the daily rhythm of Cluj life — morning coffee runs, evening strolls, weekend market browsing — instead of feeling like you’re just passing through. For the price point and location, it’s honestly hard to beat in this city.

  Location, location, location. Downtime and also next door to a 24/7 shop where you can get everything. And somehow, even though you're downtown, it's very quiet and you can get a good night's/day's sleep.

  Ultra-central location. The communication with the host was excellent both prior to our arrival and during our stay. A 24-hour convenience shop next door was very handy.
