First Impressions

When I first walked up to Velvet Apartment on Strada Valeriu Bologa, I wasn’t expecting much from the quiet residential street. But honestly, that’s part of what makes this place special — it feels like you’re staying in someone’s well-appointed home rather than a typical hotel. The building itself has that understated elegance that Cluj-Napoca does so well, and with a 9.8 rating, I was curious to see what all the fuss was about.

The Space

The apartment setup is what really sets this place apart from your standard four-star experience. You’re not getting a cramped hotel room here — instead, there’s actual living space to spread out. The kitchen is fully equipped, which I actually used more than I expected (there’s something satisfying about making coffee exactly how you like it). The decor walks that fine line between modern and cozy without feeling sterile or trying too hard.

Location and Getting Around

Here’s what I loved about the location — you’re in a proper neighborhood, not some touristy bubble. There’s a small grocery store about two blocks away, and I found myself walking to the city center most days because it’s only about 15 minutes on foot. The street is quiet enough that you’ll actually sleep well, but you’re not isolated from everything interesting. Parking isn’t an issue if you’re driving, which can’t be said for a lot of places in the old town.

The Details That Matter

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places that look good in photos but fall apart in the details. This isn’t one of them. The wifi actually works throughout the space, the shower has proper water pressure, and — this might sound small — but the blackout curtains are real blackout curtains. The host was responsive without being overbearing, and check-in was smooth even though I arrived later than planned.

Why Guests Love It

After spending several nights here, I get why this place has such high ratings. It’s not trying to be flashy or impress you with unnecessary amenities — instead, it just does everything right. You feel settled here in a way that’s hard to find in traditional hotels. If you’re the type of traveler who wants space to actually live for a few days rather than just crash between sightseeing, this is exactly what you’re looking for in Cluj-Napoca.

  The owner of the apartment Andreea was lovely. When we arrived at the apartment everything was ready. The apartment looks exactly like in the pictures. She listened to every request and made sure we had a wonderful stay. You can see that there was thought into the little details. There is no doubt that the next time we will come to Cluj we will stay again in Velvet Apartment.

  The apartment is very beautiful and cosy , it looks amazing, clean and very well equipped, we cooked ;).
  Andrea warmly welcomed us with baloons, ice cream and fruits. The location is realy near the Julious mall , just like we searched. Very convinient that apartment has it's own parking.
