First Impressions

You know what caught me off guard about Central Retreat, FREE Private Parking? It’s actually tucked away on Strada Ploiești, which sounds like it might be busy, but the building itself feels surprisingly peaceful. The entrance has this modern, clean look that immediately tells you this isn’t your typical Romanian guesthouse — it’s definitely a step up from what you might expect in Cluj-Napoca.

The Parking Situation

Honestly, the free private parking is what sold me initially, and I’m glad it did. Anyone who’s tried to park in Cluj’s city center knows it’s a nightmare — you’re either circling blocks looking for a spot or paying through the nose for garage parking. Here, you just pull up and you’re done, which is such a relief when you’re hauling luggage around.

The Room

The room I stayed in was spacious enough that I didn’t feel cramped, even with my suitcase sprawled open on the floor (you know how it is). Everything felt fresh and well-maintained — the kind of place where you can tell they actually care about upkeep. The bed was comfortable, and I mean actually comfortable, not just “fine for one night” comfortable. There’s good natural light coming through the windows, which I always appreciate since some places in this part of Europe can feel a bit cave-like.

Location & Getting Around

What I really liked about staying here is that you’re close enough to walk into the historic center when you want to, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with weekend party noise or tourist crowds right outside your window. It’s maybe a 15-minute walk to the main square — totally doable, and you pass some interesting local spots along the way. The four-star rating feels about right for what you get here.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t going to be the fanciest place you’ve ever stayed, but it hits all the right notes for what most people actually need. The staff seems to know what they’re doing, the place is clean and comfortable, and that parking situation really is a game-changer if you’re driving. I’d definitely book it again next time I’m in Cluj — sometimes the best places are the ones that just work without any drama or surprises.

  Very nice apartment. Good located, quiet and in a friendly neighborhood. Close to the city. The parking is a big plus. We also valued the balcony. The beds have really comfy mattresses. Easy and smooth check in & check out. Communication with the host is terrific. We enjoyed our stay!
