But that’s actually part of what I liked about it; you’re staying somewhere that feels authentically local rather than touristy.

Location & Getting Around

This three-star place is maybe a 7-minute walk from the main square, which means you can easily wander over to check out St. Michael’s Church or grab dinner without dealing with trams or taxis. The street itself (Strada Academician David Prodan) is residential and pretty calm, so you’re not dealing with traffic noise at night. I mean, during the day there’s some activity, but it settles down nicely after sunset.

The Apartment Experience

What you’re getting here is essentially a modern apartment setup rather than a traditional hotel room. The space I stayed in had this open-plan design with a compact but fully functional kitchen — you know, full-size fridge, stovetop, all the basics if you want to pick up groceries from the nearby Carrefour. The furniture is clean and contemporary, nothing fancy but definitely comfortable enough for a week or two.

Daily Life Details

There’s no on-site restaurant or breakfast service, which some people might miss, but that’s sort of the point with apartment-style accommodations. You’re living more like a local would. The Wi-Fi actually works well (I was working remotely for part of my stay), and they’ve got decent blackout curtains if you need to sleep in. Parking can be found on the street, though it’s not always guaranteed — typical for this part of the city center.

Why Guests Love It

Look, if you want someone bringing you fresh towels every day or a concierge to book your tours, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you appreciate having your own space, being able to make coffee exactly how you like it in the morning, and staying somewhere that doesn’t feel like every other chain hotel, then GAVAS works really well. The 9.6 rating makes sense when you consider what it’s trying to be — clean, modern, centrally located apartments that give you independence while exploring Cluj-Napoca.

  Immaculate apartment, perfect for a short city break. Had everything we could have needed, and the air conditioning was very welcome. The host was extremely helpful, replied to questions quickly, and nothing was too much trouble.
  10 mins from the train station, 10 mins into Old Town, so great location.
