First Impressions

Mika Room sits right on Strada Republicii, which honestly makes it feel more like staying in someone’s well-designed apartment than a typical hotel. The building has that classic Romanian charm — you know, the kind where the facade tells stories but the inside surprises you with modern touches. When I first walked in, I was struck by how the owners managed to keep things simple without making it feel sparse.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re actually on one of Cluj-Napoca’s main arteries, so getting anywhere is pretty straightforward. The city center is maybe a 10-minute walk, and there’s this great little bakery just around the corner that locals hit up for morning coffee. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street, but there are usually spots if you’re willing to walk a block or two. The tram stops nearby, which saved me more than once when I was running late.

The Room Experience

The room itself is what you’d expect from a three-star place, but with some thoughtful details that caught my attention. The bed was actually comfortable — not just “hotel comfortable” but properly restful. What impressed me was the little kitchenette setup; it’s basic but functional if you want to grab groceries from the market and prepare something simple. The bathroom is compact but well-designed, with good water pressure (always a win in my book).

Daily Life Here

There isn’t a traditional restaurant on-site, which initially made me wonder about meals, but it turns out that’s sort of the point. The surrounding area has plenty of local spots — from traditional Romanian places to newer cafes that cater to Cluj-Napoca’s growing expat and student population. I found myself enjoying the routine of stepping out for meals rather than being stuck in a hotel bubble. The staff gave me solid recommendations, and they clearly knew the neighborhood well.

What makes Mika Room work is its unpretentious approach to hospitality. You’re not paying for amenities you won’t use or dealing with overly formal service that feels forced. Instead, you get a clean, comfortable base in a city that’s honestly underrated as a travel destination. The 8.8 rating makes sense when you consider what most people actually need: a good night’s sleep, a decent shower, and easy access to explore. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re living in Cluj-Napoca rather than just visiting it.

  The host did everything to make sure that we spend gorgeous time in this small but unbelievably well equipped apartment. You can find everything that you would ever need when you are on a journey. Even free coffee and tea was prepared for us which was a really very nice and kind gesture! The lady who owns this apartment deserves appreciation!

  – keep in mind – apartment is on the 3rd floor, no elevator. No problem for us, but since it’s on the attic ceiling has some major slopes. I smashed my head against the wall few times 🙂
