When I walked in, the lobby felt more like entering a boutique hotel than typical serviced apartments, which was a pleasant surprise for a four-star property.

Aleea Valeriu Bologa isn’t exactly in the historical center, but that’s actually what I liked about it. You’re in a proper residential area where locals live, so you get that authentic Romanian neighborhood vibe without the tourist crowds. There’s a small grocery store about two blocks away, and I noticed several cafés within walking distance where you’ll hear more Romanian than English — always a good sign. The tram connections into the old town are straightforward once you figure out the system.

The Apartment Setup

My apartment was spacious in that European way — not huge, but everything felt thoughtfully arranged. The kitchen came fully equipped, which meant I could actually cook a proper meal instead of relying on restaurants every night. The living area had this velvet sofa (clever branding, I suppose) that was surprisingly comfortable for lounging after long days exploring the city. What struck me most was how quiet it was — double-glazed windows really do their job here.

Daily Comforts

The staff operates more like a small hotel than apartment rentals, which worked well for me. They’re around during regular hours if you need anything, but otherwise, you have complete independence. Parking is available on-site, and trust me, you’ll appreciate that if you’re driving in Cluj-Napoca — street parking can be tricky in this part of town. The Wi-Fi actually worked properly throughout the unit, something that isn’t always guaranteed in Romanian accommodations.

Here’s the thing about Velvet Apartments — it strikes this balance between having your own space and getting hotel-like service when you want it. The 9.6 rating makes sense when you consider that you’re paying reasonable rates for what feels like a temporary home rather than just a place to sleep. It’s particularly good if you’re staying more than a few days, since having that kitchen and living space prevents cabin fever. Plus, the location gives you a real sense of living in Cluj-Napoca rather than just visiting it.

  The place is wonderful as shown in image. They have a big balcony, and very clean and modern building. Host, Andreea is very kind and diligent to help you. The 2 bedrooms flat with a living room and a kitchen. I would recommend mainly for families with kids. It’s amazing 🤩
